Parent And Tot Ski Program

Age: 2.5 - 5 + Parent

Ability: Beginner (child) / Intermediate (adult)

Parent and Tot Learn to Ski Program

This 4 day program is designed for the Parent or Guardian who wants to have their youngster experience our wonderful sport at an early age. Children 32 months of age and up are welcome with their Parent or Guardian participating/skiing throughout the program.

Each child is different and will have more or less physical capacity and our experience suggests that 32 months is typically the stage where the child has sufficient dexterity to be able to enjoy the sliding experience and start to control speed and direction.

Class size will be 6 Children or fewer with each child having a participating Parent or Guardian. Children must have appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. Classes on days where the temperature is too cold will be rescheduled at a future date to ensure that the child has the best possible learning experience.

Classes are scheduled spuraticaly throughout the season

The cost is $150 + tax.

 Includes:

  • *4 sessions on select weeks

  • 1.5 hour lessons per day (parent only on first session)

  • Lift passes

  • Certified Level 2 instructor

  • Rental equipment for child and parent if you don’t have your own

The participating Parent should ski at an intermediate level. This would be defined as being able to comfortably ski on a groomed blue run in complete control. It is not required that the Parent have perfect form but control is required. Be aware that on the first day our Instructor will teach you how to ski backwards in a controlled, slow decent. While this may seem intimidating our experience is that with some practice (30 minutes) it is an easy skill to develop.

Course outline is as follows:

Day 1 (60-90 min)

Parent (or Guardian) only. The instructor will evaluate the parents skiing skills and provide instruction on key elements required to successfully ski with their child. Safety is the key priority and the instructor will ensure each parent is prepared to take on this important role. The day will include both on snow instruction as well as an indoor discussion on what to expect of the program. Please do not bring your child on the first day.

Day 2 (60-90 min)

Parent and child explores the child’s equipment, walking in boots, rolling in the snow and our favorite, making snow angels! By the end of the session the child will have their first experience sliding on their skis. Parents will work with the instructor to safely ensure their child navigates a short glide on their own. We work at a pace that keeps the experience fun for the child while maximizing progress.

Day 3 (60-90min)

This lesson will then progress the skiing experience and introduce the “Pizza” (snowplow) technique. Parents should be in their ski boots and have skis close by depending on progress. In some cases we will be riding the “Magic Carpet” with your child while others will stay in the Tot area. To add an element of fun we will play some games that add to the enjoyment and develop balance and mobility.

Final Day (60-90min)

In the final lesson we will work towards riding the platter lift “in tandem”. Experience shows that the desire to ride “the Big Kids lift” is strong and doing so on the safety of a Parents knee progresses the Child’s skiing ability. This will be a rewarding day for the entire family and other Parents, Siblings and Friends can come for the last ½ hour to cheer on the participants. The final day will wrap up with an awards ceremony! In addition you will receive a written report on suggestions for the future development of your Child.
